UX-PM Certifications

The UX-PM Certification is an international user experience (UX) training program for digital product leads, IT, marketing and project managers as well as any professional eager to discover this approach. Each level is offered as a 2-day course, is certified by the UXalliance and is internationally recognized.

The Canadian UX-PM certification is currently available in: Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City and Toronto. Outside of Canada, the certification is offered in United-States, Belgium, Brazil, Finland, France, India, Italy, Mexico, Poland, South Africa, and Switzerland, with more countries coming!

There are 3 levels:

Level 1: Adopting UX

Level 2: Executing UX

Level 3: Leading UX

Each level builds to expand knowledge of UX and how to integrate and manage it to achieve an awesome user experience in your projects.

UX Level 1: Adopting UX

Ever wondered how to ensure the user experience (UX) is considered in a project? How to include UX tools? How to cultivate a user centered design culture?

Level 1 of the UX-PM certification is for product owners, digital marketing & project managers, designers, any professional who wants to understand the fundamentals of UX, adopt UX methodologies in their projects and encourage a customer-centered design culture in their organization.

Objectives

UX-PM 1: Adopting UX

  • Understand key UX concepts, methods, misconceptions and challenges

  • Learn methods to integrate user experience into your digital projects

  • Become a UX ambassador in your organization

Who is this course for?

IT and digital managers including product owners, digital marketing & project managers, designers, any professional who wants to better understand UX and/or how to integrate UX activities into their projects. No prerequisite is needed for level 1, apart from a curiosity for the subject.

What to expect in the training program

Starting with a clear breakdown of what user or customer experience is and is not, this course aims to fully demystify UX. In this course, we will cover:

  • User experience, User-Centered design, interaction design, usability, context and how they are all related

  • Common misconceptions and challenges of UX and its disciplines

  • User behaviour and design-making processes (cognitive mechanisms, emotional responses, etc.)

  • Principles and benefits of integrating UX activities into product and service development

  • How and when to involve users in the process – the methods and the value of a strategy based on collaboration and empathy

  • How to integrate the collected user insights in a persona and how to map the journey

  • UX as a communication tool and how to promote the value of UX within an organization

  • Immersion and practical application: Review of various solutions, exploring some case studies, building persona and customer’s journey

  • A combination of theory and problem-solving exercises

UX Level 2: Executing UX

Do you want to know how to manage UX activities in a digital product? How to meet business objectives and market demands through user centered design?

UX Level 2 certification is for product owners, project managers and any other professionals, who want to establish a deeper understanding of UX activities. You will learn how to incorporate UX principles from the project management and execution perspective, in order to improve the quality of the deliverable/product/service.

Objectives

  • Understand how to incorporate principles of User-Centered design in the project lifecycle to optimize the quality and effectiveness of a product or service

  • Learn to plan, coordinate and implement UX activities at each project phase: from initial vision to implementation

  • Involve stakeholders to align the UX vision

  • Mix various user research & testing methods into the design cycle, before, during, and after delivery

  • Choose the right methods, the right sample and supervise interviews and tests (exploratory research, ethnography, usability test, card sorting, A-B test …)

  • Optimize the user research process in an Agile development cycle

Who is this course for?

UX Level 1 certified practitioner or IT decision-makers including product owners, account managers, project managers, digital marketing managers and any professional with 2 to 4 years of experience managing a technology-based product or service.

What to expect in the training program

  • Follow every step of the User-Centered Design lifecycle progress, from the vision, to the planning of the design process

  • The relation between UCD and Service Design

  • Analysis of people involved in the project and preparation of interviews with decision-makers and customers

  • Examples of qualitative & quantitative research techniques to discover user needs, as well as user profiles, sample, recruitment and logistics, user research activities, preparation, execution, analyze and deliverables

  • Quick methods to move from business objectives and vision definition to a UX strategy (value proposition Design)

  • Design requirements based on UX strategy

  • Evaluating and testing design solutions, locally and internationally (desktop and mobile solutions, face-to-face, remote, automated)

  • Implementation: collaboration between the UX team and the development team

  • Immersion and practical application: the training includes a progressing case study with discussion and role-playing to sharpen your skills in managing UX activities

UX Level 3: Leading UX

Level 3 of the UX-PM certification, is for any professional who wishes to bridge the gap between the product and the service, to increase the level of UX maturity in the organization, to understand what expertise is needed to help with this transformation and to measure the impact of UX on the project.

OBJECTIVES

UX-PM 3: Leading UX

  • Understand the connection between the product and the service (Service Design)

  • Develop a UX maturity model and a roadmap to initiate change towards a customer-centric organization

  • Build UX capacity

  • Integrate collaboration and co-creation activities into teams

  • Define key experience indicators to measure the change

  • Become a UX influencer within the organization

TARGETED AUDIENCE

UX-PM 3 certification is best suited for UX-PM Level 2 certified practitioners or professionals who have 5+ years of experience leading a technology-based solution or service.

COURSE DETAILS

In this course, we will cover:

  • Linking the product to the service (introduction to Service Design)

  • Transforming the organization through Service Design, measuring the UX maturity models – example of a 5-step roadmap

  • Building the internal capacity of your UX team: Understand the many disciplines of UX and hire the right skill set for your project

  • Collaborating through participatory design, co-creation and problem solving (divergent and convergent thinking)

  • Prototyping sprints (fail fast)

  • Measuring UX, CX & usability using Key experience indicators

  • Growing UX knowledge within the organization

Combination of theory, practical exercises and problem-solving methods

Alasdair Stuart-Bell

Alasdair stuart-bell

Alasdair is a Partner and the Lead on UX and Service Design within Jumping Elephants. He has a Masters of Business Administration from Dalhousie University and a degree in Political Science from McGill University.  

With over 19 years of experience in web services, Alasdair has worked in both the private and public sectors in a variety of web services roles, including: user needs researcher, information architect, mobile and web strategist, user experience designer, and a strong project manager.

Joelle Stemp

Joelle Stemp

Joelle Stemp founded the UX agency Yu Centrik in 2003. With great perseverance and adaptability, Yu Centrik was steered through many technological and societal changes to reach 2017 with great relevance. Joelle is a pioneer in the adoption of user experience and service design in Quebec. With a background in communications and a talent for design, Joelle began her career as a designer specialized in user interfaces and has spent the last 25 years involved in projects related to user experience and convergent medias (Web, digital TV, mobile, IVR, OOH).

Joelle designed the first Campus Wide Information System (CWIS) on the Internet for the University of Montreal in 1990 and was part of a user interface group at CRIM (Montreal Computing Research Center). Being as one of the first Certified HFI’s Usability Analyst, she continues to learn about human behaviour and is still as passionate as ever to design engaging products and services that customers will love using. Joelle is very involved in teaching the UX-PM Certification program developed in collaboration with her partners at UXalliance, a global network of User Experience Experts.
